Mediawiki was driving me nuts. It's surprisingly slow unless you set up tons of caching. It's difficult to back up. Its markup language utterly sucks. And it's really heavyweight -- you absolutely need to use a web UI for everything -- no way to do quick fixups or batch processes. So, I figured I'd try out Iki. It seems decent so far, but it will probably end up driving me nuts too... sigh.

What I want:

  • Be able to clone the wiki and take it with me.
  • Very modular. All wikis will have different use patterns and requirements.
  • Fast. i don't want to be waiting for page loads.
  • wysiwyg editing. Easy wysiwyg.
  • Open source. Don't risk locking my data away.
  • etc etc.
