Motherboard: Abit NF-M2 nView

Onboard Video: Nvidia® GF6150/NF430

CPU: Athlon 64 4200+ EE.

Memory: 2x512M PC6400 DDR2-800 CAS 5.5.5.12 PDC21G6400ELK and 2x1G PC6400 DDR2-800 5.5.5.12 OCZ2G8002GK. Unfortunately the OCZ requires 2.1V (didn't see that until I bought them).

HD: 400 GB Seagate PATA (taken from the car computer)

DVD: Old NEC DVD writer taken from the Boston entertainment computer.

Verdict: 1GB is too little memory for a modern 64 bit system, especially one that will be running virtual machines. Other than that, it's solid.

Force K8<->NB and NB<->SB to 16 bit. No change:
bios: DDR800 5-4-4-12-2T memtest: 200 MHz DDR400 1-6-11 dual 2455MB/s
set K8<->NB and NB<->SB HT Speed to 2x: no change
to 3x: no change
to 4x: no change
strange.
Drop to PC667:
bios: 667MHz-5-5-5-12-2T memtest: 200 MHz DDR400 1-6-15 dual 2148MB/s
WTF! THe memory bandwidth dropped but memtest still thinks it's at 200MHz.
OK, go back to fully automatic CPU setup and DRAM setup.
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-2T memtest: 200 MHz DDR400 4-6-11 dual 2388MB/s
pitiful.

So let's try again, this time with both sticks in. Apparently you need to clear the CMOS whenever you swap memory. Also, you need to let the MB boot up WITHOUT hitting DEL the first time so it can reset CMOS. Otherwise, your video sync gets all screwed up.

- clear cmos, boost DRAM voltage to 2.10V, set HT on maximum, set DRAM on manual.
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-2T memtest: 200 MHz DDR400 4-4-11 dual 2323MB/s
try dropping to 12, won't boot. reset, try dropping to 14, won't boot. STRANGE!

Try agian.

- cleared cmos, all defaults:
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-2T memtest: 200 MHz DDR400 4-4-11 dual: 1658 MB/s
try dropping to 5-5-5-14. lockup. wtf?

Try again.

defaults, set HT on fastest, use 1T instead of 2T
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-1T memtest: 100MHz DDR200 4-4-11 dual: 2388 MB/s (full of errors though! and screen glitches)
set HT on 4x,4x. no difference:
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-1T memtest: 100MHz DDR200 4-4-11 dual: 2388 MB/s (full of errors though! and screen glitches)
HT doesn't seem to affect memory. Set HT back on all-auto
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-2T memtest: 200MHz DDR400 4-4-11 dual: 2323 MB/s
wtf? this should be the same as the default settings plus 2.1V.
tried setting to 4-4, lock up.
reset, 1658MB/s. Set to 2.1V
bios: 800MHz-5-5-5-15-2T memtest: 200MHz DDR400 4-4-11 dual: 2323 MB/s
so just setting the memory voltage gets us to 2323MB/s. And touching anything else blows us out of the water.
